One small step for man…one giant leap for Mom

Avery decided that After Christmas she wasn’t going to wear pull ups to bed anymore.  I was apprehensive…

Yesterday we went to the store and I told her we were going to get rubber pants.  But then I started thinking “Will they really hold in the tinkle?”  No.  So I skipped that option and bought her some new My Little Pony undies.  She is convinced that they are rubber pants and she can’t tinkle in them.  So last night, before bed, she went potty…and off she went.  I checked her several times during the night.  Not wet.  At 3am, she came to my side of the bed, and I asked if she wet her bed.  Nope.  She climbed into mine to snuggle (PLEASE GOD DON’T LET HER WET MY BED).  And at 7:40am this morning – SHE WOKE UP DRY!!!!

And she was so proud of herself.  And I am so proud of her too!  This is a big day in our house.

Our Christmas Vacation

We had a great couple of days here for Christmas…and I’ve pics to prove it!

First off, I participated in the Great Wineglass Exchange, hosted by Coco.  I was paired with KDLOST.  Christmas Eve at 6pm, Fed Ex pulls up in front of the house and THIS AWESOME GLASS is delivered to me.  Isn’t it so cool?  Thanks again!  Next year, it will definitely be filled with Holiday Cheer!

Then we got down to business – eating and presents.  First off, it the appetizers.  Many years ago we started a tradition of making tons of different appetizers and grazing…watching classic Christmas movies (Shitter was full) and opening presents.

This year, we had oysters, weinies in BBQ sauce, cheese balls, mussels, chips and salsa, scotch eggs and shrimp.  Yum yum yum!

And we did have Holiday Cheer (well, not me of course) and here is Hubby, cracking the bottle open.

And then came the presents.  Avery was ready and raring to go.  In fact, as you can see, she plopped herself right down in the middle of the action.  (The vest she is wearing was a gift from Nana Laura.)

And she got her very own computer.  She was so excited!  It’s a Cool School from Fisher Price and it hooks to our computer.  I was impressed. and the hand gesture she has going on only begins to convey her excitement – really I wish I would have gotten it on video for y’all.

I whipped up some cookies (ok, store bought cookie dough) for Santa.  Bear got to them, and managed to down a few, but there were still some left for Santa.  And Hubby left Santa some good old Holiday Cheer (Nassau Royale) in the glass.  He thought the jolly fat man would like that better than cocoa.  Avery diligently wrote (with some help) her letter to Santa and off to bed she went.  She was convinced she was going to get up when Santa was here so she could give him a hug and kiss.  She also wanted to pet Rudolph.

And Santa’s elves worked very hard wrapping gifts after she went to bed.  And the end result….

She had a GREAT time opening presents, but I thought I would spare  y’all the gory details.  She got lots of cool things, including her own “IPOD” – really it’s a Fisher Price player.  I have to figure out how to put her music on there.  Here she is, listening to a song about a cat, but I am sure she was wishing it was Hannah Montana or Pink.

And the big finish – all done with presents!

And here she is – all dressed up and ready to party.  I have to get a picture of myself up here too – to show off the belly.  But that is going to have to wait.

All in all – it was a great time with family.   We are looking forward to spending time with friends over the New Year’s Holiday.

PS – Hubby Santa brought us a Blu Ray player too.  If you don’t have one – they are amazing!

Merry Christmas to All!!

In the commotion of getting ready for Christmas Eve…I wanted to stop and wish every one of you a Merry Christmas!

I hope Santa fulfills your every wish and your child dance with delight when they come downstairs tomorrow morning.

Enjoy time with your families and loved ones, whoever you may share this holiday with.

And remember what is most important in your life and give thanks….I know I will.

The Drive Thru

I used to work at McDonald’s – in high school and college.  Mostly I worked the drive thru.  It used to piss me off when people would double check that everything was in the bag before pulling away from the window.  Seriously – I put everything in their, Dear Customer.

Today, after getting my haircut, I took Avery to McDonald’s for lunch.  (Call it bribery but I told her if she behaved at the salon that we would go for lunch)  It’s snowing pretty hard and the roads are crappy, I just want to get home PRONTO.    So I order…1 chicken nugget happy meal with apple dippers.  BBQ for the nuggets.  Simple enough, right?  And I find myself at the window, after getting the happy meal bag, rifling through to make sure that the coveted Caramel Sauce for the apples and the BBQ sauce for the nuggets are in the bad.  And I notice the young girl at the window looking at me, rolling her eyes.  And I want to tell her that I was once in her shoes…17 years ago.  That I understand her frustration at people who check their orders.  Cuz you know you put everything in there….

BUT LET ME TELL YOU – 17 years from now, when you have a 3 year old who COUNTS on the McDonald’s employee to fulfill their dreams of caramel sauce and bbq sauce, and you find yourself as the stressed out, tired mommy who has to deal with the aftermath of forgetten sauce….you will. much like I did today, reflect on those days of “Welcome to McDonalds, may I take your order?”  And think – I’d better check to make sure the sauce is in the bag.

I struck it rich!

You won’t believe this….really….it’s truly amazing!  I just got an email telling me that I have just had 4 million euros deposited into my HSBC bank account.  OMG! I can’t believe it!!!!  I am the luckiest person on the face of this earth.

I mean seriously…just last week my long lost ancestor in Southern Africia died and the Bank of Kenya is going to wire me my inhertiance.  And that’s another $2,000,000.00.

Wait….I don’t have a bank account at HSBC.  And I am pretty sure I don’t have any relatives in South Africa.  Nope, not last time I checked.

Could it be true?  Could I have been the victim of spam?  Not me….not possible.

Damn, and here I was ready to move to a warm climate, buy a McMansion, and live the American dream.

(Sorry – just getting a little sick of the shit that doesn’t go directly into my spam account.)

Four Christmases

It’s Monday morning (I tried to block that from my thoughts) and it’s raining and windy enough to blow the neighbor’s trash all over our yard (I’d ignore that too but it’s hard not to look out the window) and I’ve had a crappy start to my morning.

So to cheer myself up, I thought I would share some pictures with you all.

Santa – 2005

She wasn’t quite sure what to think of the big jolly fat me.  At least she didn’t cry.  She just looked like a deer in the headlights.

2006.  Why am I in the picture?  Because she was TERRIFIED of the big fat man.  Do I look like I was prepared to have my photo taken.  Um, no.  And luckily Avery is (somewhat) hiding the 30+ pounds of baby fat I still have on me.  Maybe I should have auditioned for the role of Jolly Fat (WO) Man???

2007 – The first Breakfast with Santa.  She sat on his lap, but only with a tentative smile.  Would you believe the beard is real?

2008 – Now we are in the spirit of Christmas!  She climbed right up on his lap in her pretty party dress.  Gave him her list, and smiled for the camera.  She knows now that Santa comes to the houses of GOOD little boys and girls.   She with the program now….

It just amazes me how much she has changed over these 4 Christmases (hey – maybe they stole the idea from that movie from this blog post.  Oh wait, the movie DID come first, right?).

So now that I feel better…I am going to play Dora dominos.
